Live Storytelling at the Peale

As Baltimore’s home for cultural storytelling, the Peale hosts live storytelling events and collaborates with local storytellers and storytelling organizations.

As part of the Peale’s Founder’s Day Open House celebrations, on 14 August 2017 WYPR’s Aaron Henkin was joined on the Peale’s stage by neighbors from the 200 block of Holliday street for an evening of storytelling in front of a live audience.

Mama Linda Goss and David Fakunle on the Peale and its “Colored School” history, 24 August 2017

An August 24 tour of historic downtown Baltimore, organized with the Downtown Partnership and Baltimore Architecture Foundation, culminated at the Peale with storytelling by Mama Linda Goss, founder of the National Association of Black Storytellers (NABS), and David Fakunle, master drummer and storyteller. Mama Linda and Brother David introduced the history of the Peale as Colored School Number One (1878-1887), and shared their experiences of segregation and opportunities in Baltimore schools in the twentieth century.
